چکیده

The conductance distribution of metallic mesoscopic systems is considered. The variance of this distribution describes the universal conductance fluctuations, yielding a Gaussian distribution of the conductance. We calculate diagrammatically the third cumulant of this distribution, the leading deviation from the Gaussian. We confirm random matrix theory calculations that the leading contribution in quasi-one-dimension vanishes. However, in quasi-two-dimensions the third cumulant is negative, whereas in three dimensions it is positive. @S0163-1829~97!06507-7#

Statistics of energy levels and eigenfunctions in disordered systems

The article reviews recent developments in the theory of fluctuations and correlations of energy levels and eigenfunction amplitudes in diffusive mesoscopic samples. Various spatial geometries are considered, with emphasis on low-dimensional (quasi-1D and 2D) systems. Calculations are based on the supermatrix σ-model approach. The method reproduces, in so-called zero-mode approximation, the uni...

Distribution of conductance and its universal fluctuations in 1-D disordered, mesoscopic systems

The evolution with length of the probability distribution for the two-probe conductance (g2) of a disordered one-dimensional system is obtained numerically. It evolves from a strongly peaked distribution close to g2 = in the small length limit towards another strongly peaked distribution near g2 = 0 in the large length limit. In the middle it goes through a quasidiffusive regime where the distr...

Nonequilibrium mesoscopic conductance fluctuations as the origin of 1/f noise in epitaxial graphene

We investigate the 1/f noise properties of epitaxial graphene devices at low temperatures as a function of temperature, current and magnetic flux density. At low currents, an exponential decay of the 1/f noise power spectral density with increasing temperature is observed that indicates mesoscopic conductance fluctuations as the origin of 1/f noise at temperatures below 50 K. At higher currents...

Structure of quantum disordered wave functions: weak localization, far tails, and mesoscopic transport

We report on the comprehensive numerical study of the fluctuation and correlation properties of wave functions in three-dimensional mesoscopic diffusive conductors. Several large sets of nanoscale samples with finite metallic conductance, modeled by an Anderson model with different strengths of diagonal box disorder, have been generated in order to investigate both small and large deviations (a...

Dynamic heterogeneities in critical coarsening: Exact results for correlation and response fluctuations in finite-sized spherical models

We study dynamic heterogeneities in the out-of-equilibrium coarsening dynamics of the spherical ferromagnet after a quench from infinite temperature to its critical point. A standard way of probing such heterogeneities is by monitoring the fluctuations of correlation and susceptibility, coarse-grained over mesoscopic regions. We discuss how to define fluctuating coarse-grained correlations and ...
